Zonta Acknowledges 16 Days of Activism

Zonta Club of Rockhampton acknowledged the commencement of the Zonta worldwide 16 Days of Activism Campaign on 25th November, with a breakfast attended by Zontians and invited guests. Four guest speakers delivered presentations which outlined the importance and relevance of the Campaign in today’s world.

Speakers were Hannah, a Police Officer from the Domestic and Family Violence Unit in Rockhampton, Dave Grenfell OAM who shared his family’s experience with domestic violence while highlighting the work of The Shelter Collective, and Zonta member Louise Hayes, who represents CQ Healthy Families and Legal Aid. Also, a most personal tribute came from Cheryl, who lost a daughter to domestic violence in Rockhampton in 2020.

Although this campaign, which runs from 25th November through to 10th December, is a concerted effort to eliminate violence against women in all its forms, Zonta works throughout the year at keeping the community aware of the domestic violence problem, hence Zonta’s mission, Building a Better World for Women and Girls.
