Safe Cities | Safe Streets for Women and Girls Walk – Townsville

You are warmly invited to join us for the Safe Cities | Safe Streets for Women and Girls Walk, held as part of the global 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence and aligned with UN Women Australia’s national campaign: Safe. Everywhere. Always. This campaign calls for safety in every space – at home, online, at work, and in our public places.

Event Details
📅 Date: Thursday, 27 November 2025
🕔 Time: 5:45pm – 645pm
📍 Location: Outside C Bar, The Strand

This community walk aims to highlight how women and girls experience safety in public spaces and to spark meaningful conversations about how we can design safer, more inclusive streets for everyone.

At the beginning and end of the walk we will have survey questions to collect data on perceptions of safety. We will also allow for multiple stops on the walk to facilitate discussion and take photos of any areas of concern. Depending on the number of participants we may split into 2 groups with 2 different walking paths, but both will start & finish in the amphitheatre outside C bar.

What to Wear
To visibly show solidarity:

Wear orange, the international colour of the 16 Days of Activism, or
Wear your club, school, workplace, or community organisation shirt to acknowledge our community partnerships working together for change.
Why This Matters
By taking part, you will help amplify local voices and contribute to an advocacy report that supports safer urban design, better lighting, walkability, and active transport—ensuring women and girls are safe everywhere, always.
Everyone is welcome to participate – all genders, all ages, all abilities.

This initiative is inspired by the Safe Cities project led by Zonta Club of Brisbane, Queensland Walks, and the University of Queensland. We have attached the Toolkit that has informed us with project planning.

Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle.
Feel free to invite friends, family members, and colleagues to walk with you.

We look forward to walking alongside you as we take steps toward a safer, more inclusive future for all. If you have any questions about this upcoming walk, please don’t hesitate to reach out in reply by email.
