Zonta Club of Whitsunday have secured a great venue for running of Derby Day, one of the favourite horse races in Melbourne, the first event on the Spring Racing Carnival calendar; and preceding the Melbourne Cup by 1 week.

The event will be held at La Tabella restaurant on the Airlie Beach Esplanade, kindly provided by the amazing Leni Fries.  Commencing at 12 noon and ending at 4pm, it will be an afternoon of fun & friendship.  Enjoy A glass of Prosecco on arrival and a great lunch. Join in the Raffles, Auction and lucky draw prize, and the excitement of the televised Main Race.  So make sure you have some cash.

Due to COVID, the maximum number of guests is 45 (and all must remain seated). So book your tickets asap as they will be snapped up very quickly.

The required dress code is Black & White – as per some history that a 200 pound wardrobe was offered to the racegoer who wore the best black-and-white ensemble to the Melbourne Cup during the VRC’s centenary carnival in 1960, sponsored by whisky-maker James Buchanan and Co for its Black and White. brand.  It was also inspired. by the film My Fair Lady. We will also never forget English model Jean Shrimpton who wore a white minidress to Derby Day in 1965, that sparked controversy and was later described as a pivotel moment in women’s fashion.  A black/white fashion hat is also a must for this event.

All Money raised goes to Zonta projects to empower women and girls.

Ticket cost is $55 pp
